SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office officials identified a man who was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 221 Monday night.

Lance Cpl. Gary Miller with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the crash happened near the intersection of Chesnee Highway and Cleveland Chapel Road at around 9:55 p.m.

Troopers said a 23-year-old Spartanburg man was headed north on Highway 221 when his minivan crossed the center line and crashed into a Dodge pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the driver as Glen Calvert Perkins, 66, of Pauline.

Clevenger said a forensic exam has been scheduled to determine cause of death.

Troopers say a passenger in the truck was transported by EMS to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.

It’s unknown if the minivan driver was hurt in the wreck.

Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles following the crash, troopers say.

The crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.
