UPDATE – The body of Juber Lemus was found around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to Ryan Herring with Anderson Technical Rescue. ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene of a possible drowning at a recreation area on Lake Hartwell.

Anderson Co. Emergency Management says divers from Abbeville and Oconee counties were brought in to assist in the search on Tuesday morning.

According to Ryan Herring with Anderson Technical Rescue, they got a call of a possible drowning around 8:45 p.m. Monday at Singing Pines recreation area in Starr.

The recreation area is closed Tuesday due to the search.

Crews interviewed witnesses and were told a 24-year-old man was swimming in the lake with friends before he went missing and was not accounted for. 

The man’s family says his name is Juber Lemus.

Initially, three rescue divers searched the area but could not find the man. As of midnight, there were 12 divers on scene, including six with Anderson County and six with Hart County.

Search operations continued through the night. On Tuesday morning, crews were searching an area of the lake about 40 feet deep. 

Anderson Technical Rescue, Hart County Dive Team, Hart County Emergency Management, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Emergency Management, and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources are helping in the operation.
